RUU Tenaga Atom ganti Akta Perlesenan Tenaga Atom 1984

JOHOR BAHRU – Lembaga Perlesenan Tenaga Atom (AELB) yakin penggubalan Akta Perlesenan Tenaga Atom 1984 (Akta 304) kepada Rang Undang-Undang (RUU) Tenaga Atom bersesuaian dengan perkembangan semasa berikutan peningkatan pemegang lesennya.

Ketua Pengarahnya, Hamrah Mohd Ali, berkata, berikutan itu, pindaan pada rang undang-undang itu yang mula dilaksanakan sejak enam tahun lalu dengan mengambil kira beberapa faktor termasuk aspek keselamatan dan kawal gunaan tenaga atom dijangka akan dimuktamadkan pada tahun ini.

Menurutnya, AELB juga telah menjalankan kajian secara menyeluruh dan terperinci mengenai pindaan undang-undang itu, sebelum menyerahkannya kepada Jabatan Peguam Negara

“Penggunaan teknologi nuklear di Malaysia juga semakin meningkat mengikut kepada bilangan pemegang lesen, jadi sudah sampai masa akta berkenaan (Akta 304) yang sudah hampir 35 tahun itu dipinda dan pindaan ini juga adalah seiring dengan perkembangan semasa serta mengikut piawaian antarabangsa.

“Di peringkat AELB, kita sudah pun berbincang dengan pelbagai pihak berkepentingan mengenai pindaan ini dan menyerahkan draf berkenaan kepada Jabatan Peguam Negara. Kita berharap pindaan yang dilakukan itu dapat dimuktamadkan pada tahun ini selepas diteliti oleh pihak Jabatan Peguam Negara,” katanya.

Beliau berkata demikian kepada media selepas majlis menandatangani memorandum persefahaman (MoU) antara AELB dan Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) di Dewan Senat UTM, di sini, hari ini.

Pada majlis berkenaan AELB diwakili Hamrah dan UTM diwakili Timbalan Naib Canselor (Pembangunan)nya, Prof Dr Azlan Abdul Rahman.

MoU itu bertujuan sebagai penukaran maklumat teknikal dan kerjasama dalam bidang keselamatan nuklear dan sinaran, sekuriti bahan radioaktif dan bahan nuklear serta kawal selia bahan nuklear melibatkan aktiviti pendidikan dan penyelidikan.

Hamrah berkata, pindaan itu juga bertujuan untuk mengawal undang-undang tenaga atom secara selamat bagi keamanan di negara ini.

“Ini kerana, sehingga kini terdapat kira-kira 2,000 pemegang lesen AELB yang aktif dalam pelbagai industri termasuk bidang penyelidikan, gas dan minyak, elektronik serta pembuatan dan sebagainya,” katanya.

Academic Visit from Institut Pertanian Bogor to the Faculty of Science, UTM

On the 16th of November 2016, 4 lecturers from Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) visited the Faculty of Science in order to discuss future collaborative work. The delegation was greeted by our Deputy Dean (Research, Innovation, Community and Network), Prof.Dr.Wan Azelee Wan Abu Bakar and lecturers from the Department of Chemistry. Among the agendas that was carried out during the one day visit were introduction to our faculty, visit to the research facilities and most importantly, intensive discussions on the possible type of collaborations. Hopefully this visit will pave the way for a successful relationship and collaboration between IPB and our faculty.

First Year Experience Programme by PESAT

       On the 18th of November 2016, the ‘Persatuan Sains dan Teknologi’, Faculty of Science (PESAT) organized the First Year Experience (FYE) programme, which catered to the first year students of the faculty. Among the objectives of this programme are to help the transition of the students to university life, build a good relationship among all members of the faculty and help them to understand our community.

           The programme was officiated by Assoc Prof. Dr Zaiton Majid, Head Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science. A total of 201 students attended the programme, which consisted of four slots:

  • Introduction to the road map programme by Dr. Mohd. Bakri Bakar
  • Introduction to the Young Excellent Scientist programme by Dr. Raja Kamarulzaman
  • University life by the alumni of our faculty, which were Norfazreen Saffee, Mohamad Hidayad Ahmad Kamal and Mohamad Dzarul Hafiz Dol Malik.
  • Session with the committee of PESAT

The programme ended with the closing and token of appreciation-giving ceremony by the advisors of PESAT, Dr. Sheela Chandren and Dr. Nor Ain Husein.

Faculty of Science student receive prestigious UTM Chancellor Award at UTM 57th Convocation.


Faculty Science student, Ms. Claira Arul Arulldass is the recipient of the prestigious Chancellor Award at UTM 57th Convocation Ceremony today.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence acknowledges postgraduate students with outstanding performance. It is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by the University and is only bestowed to two students at every convocation.

Claira who passed her doctoral viva recently is a Chemistry major under the tutelage of Professor Wan Azlina Wan Ahmad from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science. She completed her research entitled ‘Violet pigment form Chromobacterium violaceum UTM5 grown in liquid pineapple waste and its antibacterial and cytotoxicity activities.
