Mentor-Mentee Program for Recycle E-Waste: Innovate Solutions 2024
Dr. Ahmad Qushairi bin Mohamad was selected as a mentor for the Recycle E-Waste: Innovate Solutions competition program. This program was organized by the Faculty of Science, UTM, in collaboration with the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying, UTM, under the Malaysia National Commission for UNESCO (SKUM) Grant and the KTP@Faculty Grant, UTM. Additionally, the program received support from CSNano UTM, SMK Bandar Baru Uda, ERTH Company, and Chumbaka, led by Dr. Salwa Alwa Alias. The program involved the participation of schools from the Johor Bahru district through awareness workshops utilizing recycled materials from electronic waste (E-Waste). These workshops, titled E-Waste: Small Devices, Big Impact, aimed to empower initiatives aligned with the theme of ‘Education for Sustainable Development. As a mentor, Dr. Qushairi, along with Dr. Nor Ain Binti Husein, guided students and accompanying teachers from SMK Tasek Utara in creating innovative and useful products from electronic waste materials. These products were then showcased in the final competition round. The mentoring process lasted two months, ensuring the student team achieved all objectives set by the organizers and prepared thoroughly for their product and poster presentation during the finals. As a result of these efforts, the project titled The Sustainable Smart E-Waste Bookcase (TASEK) earned third place among eight competing teams.
LoI between JSM and SONY EMCS (MALAYSIA) SDN. BHD.
The discussion meeting on the Letter of Intent (LoI) with the industry, held on October 3, 2024, was a significant step in strengthening the collaboration between the Department of Mathematical Sciences (JSM), Faculty of Science, UTM, and SONY EMCS (MALAYSIA) SDN. BHD. The meeting aimed to align objectives and outline the terms of the LoI, which will define strategic cooperation in areas such as student placements for industrial training, supervision of undergraduate projects, and career opportunities for UTM graduates, particularly those from JSM. During the meeting, both parties engaged in constructive discussions on key aspects, including the scope of collaboration, mutual commitments, and desired outcomes. Topics covered included resource sharing, utilization of placement facilities, and involvement in mutually beneficial development projects. The industry representatives also proposed JSM’s role as an intermediary for disseminating information on industrial training placements and career opportunities, not only for JSM students but also for the Faculty of Engineering at UTM, which could provide long-term benefits for both parties. Overall, this meeting marked a positive beginning in efforts to strengthen academia-industry relations and pave the way for more productive collaborations in the future.
Collaboration Meeting Between UTM and UTP
The Fluid Mechanics Research Group (FMRG), Department of Mathematical Sciences (JSM), Faculty of Science, UTM, is pleased to have received an invitation to attend the Collaboration Networking Meeting organized by the Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems (C2PS), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), under the invitation of Dr. Mohamad Nordin Zakaria. This meeting serves as an opportunity to discuss various key aspects related to collaborative initiatives in research, publication, and postdoctoral training, as well as to achieve synergy between the fields of Fluid Mechanics and Machine Learning. Furthermore, the meeting is not only a platform for sharing information and knowledge but also a strategic step to encourage joint projects that benefit all parties, especially FMRG and C2PS. Key agenda items for this meeting include discussions on the Postdoctoral Training by FMRG members scheduled for October 1, 2024, and a follow-up review of the project Machine Learning in Mathematical Modeling of Human Eyes, previously conducted. The outcomes of this meeting are expected to positively impact progress and the achievement of shared objectives, facilitated by an upcoming Letter of Intent (LoI). Additionally, the opportunity to meet and interact with professionals and experts in this field provides invaluable experiences. Such collaboration represents a significant step in fostering a stronger team culture and opening up more opportunities for long-term growth and success between FMRG and C2PS. This effort aligns with the Malaysian Government’s aspirations to advance the field of Artificial Intelligence for the future.
Plenary Speaker of TIMES-2024
Dr. Ahmad Qushairi Bin Mohamad has been invited as a plenary speaker at the International Conference on “Technological Innovation in Multidisciplinary Engineering and Sciences (TIMES-2024). This conference is organized at the School of Engineering & Technology, The NorthCap University, Gurugram, New Delhi, India. He presented a study titled “Analytical Study of Classical and Fractional Brinkman-type Fluids with the Effect of Bioconvection in a Cylindrical Domain.” In this study, Dr. Qushairi shared about mathematical methods in conducting preliminary analysis for water filtration applications. The study also emphasizes future research that will be developed into Machine Learning methods, aligning with the conference’s goal to highlight AI elements in research. This sharing has also attracted the attention of several participants for future collaboration in this research. Dr. Qushairi’s attendance there was physical, with accommodation and travel fully sponsored by the organizers. This invitation was through Dr. Nurhafizah Binti Hasim as the Advisor of the Committee (International).
