Facilitators : Dr. Fazira Ilyana Abdul Razak, Dr. Hasmerya Maarof

Description of workshop:
Computational chemistry workshop is designed for those who wish to apply computational simulation to assist in solving chemical problems. The main objective is to learn the tools in the simplest way possible so that participants will be able to solve problems related to their field of interest. The main topics covered in this course are:
1) Basic theory of Computational Chemistry
2) Application of computational chemistry
3) Hands-on practice on using Gaussian 16

Workshop on Life sciences Design of Experiments

Date : 15 July 2019
Time : 8.30 am – 4.00 pm
Fee : RM 200 (researcher/staff), RM 100 (student)
Facilitators : Dr. Huszalina Hussin, Dr. Nor Azimah Mohamad Zin

Description of workshop:
Throughout this course, the participants will be introduced to the basic concepts of theories to form hypothesis and the design of experiments (DOE) to achieve the objectives of research. Topics include factorial design and response surface methodology. This workshop will include practical examples and exercises to understand the applicability and concept of DOE followed by analysis and interpretation of results in understandable manner.

Workshop on Big Data Simulation

Date : 15 July 2019
Time : 8.30 am – 4.00 pm
Fee : RM 200 (researcher/staff), RM 100 (student)
Facilitators : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norma binti Alias

Description of workshop:
By attending this workshop, the participants will learn the concepts and skill on how to solve big data problem of a grand challenge application. Many opportunities for enhancing the parallel algorithm, domain and function decomposition, mapping strategy of large scale simulation, message passing paradigm, high performance computing architecture will be described. The aims of this workshop is to build the understanding about big data simulation, how to handle the huge simulation and how to use the HPC software.
The required hardware is laptop. Thus, the participants are advised to bring their own laptop. The required software is PVM, CUDA and MDCS. However, this workshop will provide the live CD to the participants.

Make Prediction from Your Data using R

Date : 15 July 2019
Time : 8.30 am – 4.00 pm
Fee : RM 200 (researcher/staff), RM 100 (student)
Facilitators : Dr. Norhaiza Ahmad, Dr. Noraslinda M. Ismail, Dr. Fauzee Hamdan, Dr. Shariffah Suhaila Syed Jamaludin

Description of workshop:
This workshop discusses the basics around what is and how to create a predictive model with R software. We demonstrate starting with the basic simple linear regression model and then to a more advanced generalized linear model to use in analysis.

Workshop on Density Functional Theory

Date : 15 July 2019
Time : 9 am – 4 pm
Fee : RM 200 (researcher/staff), RM 100 (student)
Facilitators : Assoc. Prof. Dr Amiruddin bin Shaari, Dr Razif bin Razali

Description of workshop:
This workshop introduces participants to basic theories and applications of density functional theory (DFT) in materials science. In the workshop participants will learn and use Quantum Espresso, a free, open-source and pseudopotential based DFT package to do some simple calculations on structural, electronic and optical properties of crystalline materials in linux environment.
