UTM Experts Inspire with \u2018Meet the Expert\u2019 Series on Waste Management and Circular Economy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Johor Bahru, September 2024<\/em> \u2014 Petrosains PlaySmart Johor Bahru, in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), organized a series of educational talks under the \u2018Meet the Expert\u2019 program. The series, held at Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Johor, aimed to raise awareness about waste management and circular economy, targeting audiences of various age groups and backgrounds.<\/p>\n

The event, which ran from July to October 2024, brought together notable UTM experts from the Faculty of Science, each presenting on innovative and sustainable approaches to waste management:<\/p>\n

  1. Zaidah Rahmat<\/strong> (13 September) \u2013 Delivered a session on \u201cCreative Ways to Manage & Reduce Scheduled Waste at School,\u201d emphasizing practical solutions for educational institutions to contribute to a sustainable future.<\/li>\n
  2. Prof. Dr. Shafinaz Shahir<\/strong> (14 September) \u2013 In her presentation, \u201cExplore Waste Management and Circular Economy,\u201d Dr. Shafinaz, Dean of the Faculty of Science, provided a broad overview of circular economy principles and their potential impact on society.<\/li>\n
  3. ChM. Dr. Faizuan Bin Abdullah<\/strong> (14 September) \u2013 Spoke on \u201cOIL2WANG: Used Cooking Oil (UCO) Circular Economy,\u201d discussing the importance of repurposing used cooking oil as part of a sustainable waste management strategy.<\/li>\n
  4. Huszalina Hussin<\/strong> (18 September) \u2013 Focused on \u201cPeningkatan & Nilai Tambah Kualiti Sisa Makanan (Compost) melalui Penyelidikan & Pembangunan (R&D),\u201d highlighting how composting can enhance waste quality and support agricultural productivity.<\/li>\n
  5. Siti Salwa Alias<\/strong> (21 September) \u2013 Concluded the series with a talk titled \u201cE-waste: Peranti kecil, Impak besar,\u201d bringing attention to the environmental impact of electronic waste and how individuals and organizations can address this issue.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This program, held in conjunction with Petronas\u2019 50th anniversary and Petrosains’ 25th anniversary, reflects a joint commitment to fostering a cleaner, sustainable future. The sessions attracted numerous participants, encouraging the community to actively contribute to waste reduction and sustainable practices in their daily lives.<\/p>\n
