Johor Bahru, April 22, 2024 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) organized a highly informative workshop titled “Process of Paper Submission and Review Process from a Journal Editor’s Perspective” as part of the Faculty of Science (FS) Research Year 2024. The event, which was held virtually through the Webex platform, saw participation from 136 attendees, including 82 lecturers and 54 postgraduate students. It aimed to provide deeper insights into the submission process for research papers and strategies to boost academic visibility.

Led by ChM. Dr. Muhammad Amirul Aizat Mohd Abdah and the Department of Chemistry, the workshop featured two expert speakers: Prof. Suhairul Hashim and Associate Professor ChM. Dr. Roswanira Abdul Wahab. During the session, Prof. Suhairul Hashim offered a comprehensive understanding of the paper submission process from the perspective of a journal editor. His insights helped participants grasp what journal editors and reviewers expect, which in turn enhances the likelihood of manuscript acceptance in high-impact journals.

In addition, Associate Professor ChM. Dr. Roswanira Abdul Wahab shared strategies to increase academic visibility. Her talk focused on using academic networking platforms, improving citation counts, and promoting research more effectively. These strategies are crucial for researchers aiming to elevate their academic profiles and gain wider recognition for their work within the global academic community.

The workshop brought substantial benefits to both the participants and the Faculty of Science. For the participants, it not only improved their understanding of how to prepare high-quality submissions but also boosted their confidence in the academic publishing process. They left the session better equipped to produce manuscripts that meet the standards of top-tier academic journals. Furthermore, the session on enhancing visibility empowered researchers to strategically promote their work, which is expected to result in increased citations and greater academic reach.

For the Faculty of Science, the workshop’s impact is far-reaching. By encouraging faculty members and students to submit higher-quality research papers and promoting their work more effectively, the faculty is likely to see an increase in research output, citations, and global academic recognition. The session also facilitated collaboration between faculty members and students, laying the groundwork for future joint research projects.

The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session where participants were able to address their specific queries and receive personalized guidance from the speakers. This workshop is expected to result in at least four manuscript submissions to ISI-indexed journals over the next year, further contributing to UTM’s research portfolio.
