Johor Bahru, May 2024 – The Faculty of Science at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully hosted the Bengkel Edited Book, a highlight of the 2024 FS Research Month aimed at supporting faculty members in developing high-quality edited books. Held over two days on May 12-13, the workshop provided participants with the chance to present and refine their book proposals under the guidance of experienced editors and facilitators.
Led by Dr. Abdul Fatah A. Samad, the event featured five editors engaging in hands-on sessions to advance their ongoing projects. The workshop culminated in the submission of two completed draft books: Plant Tissue Culture Applications for Valuable Crops by Dr. Raihana Ridzuan and Dr. Azman Abd Samad, and Bioteknologi & Implikasinya Menurut Syarak by Dr. Abdul Fatah A. Samad.
Participants benefited from expert guidance, networking opportunities, and accelerated book production, with some projects being submitted to UTM’s publisher during the event. For the Faculty of Science, the workshop enhanced its academic reputation, contributed to UTM’s publication record, and promoted knowledge sharing across various research fields.
On the second day, four new proposals were presented during the Pembentangan Proposal Edited Book session, with three proposals approved for further development. These covered topics such as nanotechnology, fuzzy logic, and B-spline curve modeling, reflecting the diverse research strengths of the faculty.
Dr. Abdul Fatah praised the participants’ dedication and suggested potential improvements for future workshops, including streamlining the event to a single day with clearer book production guidelines. Despite minor setbacks, such as scheduling conflicts, the workshop was considered a success and reaffirmed UTM’s commitment to academic excellence through research and publication.
