UTM Hosts Successful Bibliometric Analysis Workshop for FS Research Month 2024
Johor Bahru, August 27, 2024 – As part of the Faculty of Science (FS) Research Month 2024, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully conducted a productive “Bibliometric Analysis for Review Article” workshop at UTM HELIx, C17. The workshop, led by Dr. Raihana Ridzuan, aimed to equip participants with valuable skills in using bibliometric analysis to enhance their research review articles.
The event attracted 22 participants, including both staff and students, who engaged in in-depth sessions on how to extract and analyze journal data using bibliometric tools like CiteSpace. Dr. Jasnizat Saidin from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu served as the guest speaker, guiding attendees through the process of collecting data from the Web of Science database and utilizing that data for research article analysis and review writing.
The workshop provided significant benefits to participants, particularly through hands-on learning. Attendees were able to apply their own research data using CiteSpace, generating bibliometric outputs under the guidance of the facilitator. Additionally, participants gained practical skills in writing review articles based on bibliometric data, with examples and templates provided to help structure their work. By the end of the session, many participants were outlining their own research topics and planning to write review articles using the methods introduced.
Overall, the workshop was a valuable opportunity for UTM staff and students to enhance their research capabilities. Organizers are considering expanding future bibliometric workshops to provide more comprehensive training on both analytical tools and review article writing, building on the success of this event.
