11th September 2024, Johor Bahru – The International Laser Technology & Optics Symposium 2024 (iLATOS 2024) was officially inaugurated today at Sunway Hotel, Johor Bahru. This prestigious event gathers leading experts, researchers, and industry professionals from around the globe to explore advancements in laser and optics technology.

In his welcoming address, Assoc. Prof. Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek, Advisor of iLATOS 2024, emphasized the significance of this event in fostering collaboration and innovation in the field. “This symposium stands as a testament to the profound dedication of local and global researchers in laser technology. I am confident that this gathering will propel new frontiers in technological advancements,” Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam remarked.

iLATOS 2024 features an impressive lineup of keynote speakers, including:

  • Datuk Prof. Ulung Dr. Harith Ahmad (University of Malaya, Malaysia)
    A distinguished pioneer in photonics, Datuk Prof. Harith has made significant contributions to Malaysia’s technological landscape. His work spans optical fiber communication, lasers, and photonics, and he has been instrumental in developing devices for both industrial and scientific applications. He is known for his leadership in national initiatives such as the National Photonics Project, driving Malaysia’s progress in cutting-edge technology and innovation.
  • Ir. Dr. Ahmad Ashrif A Bakar (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia)
    Prof. Ahmad Ashrif is an expert in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Communications, and Network System Engineering. His research focuses on optical sensors, including environmental and optical phenomena, and has contributed substantially to industrial and practical applications. Prof. Ahmad has a wide range of expertise in photonic sensing, communications, and fiber optics.
  • Prof. Dr. Ian Yulianti (Universitas Negeri Semarang, Indonesia)
    A prominent researcher in optical sciences, Dr. Ian Yulianti specializes in nanomaterials and photonic technology for medical, environmental, and industrial applications. With her strong academic and research background, she is actively involved in contributing solutions to global technological challenges, with a focus on sustainable innovation.
  • Dr. M. Shahid Rafique (University of Engineering & Technology, Pakistan)
    Prof. Shahid Rafique is an expert in laser-material interactions and nanotechnology. He has held prestigious positions internationally, including as a Visiting Professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His research includes laser-induced processes, optical sensing, and thin-film technology. He is highly regarded for his work in laser processing of materials and its industrial applications.
