18 September 2024 – Semarang, Indonesia – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) have taken a significant step towards strengthening academic collaboration by initiating a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by UNDIP on 18 September 2024 at a ceremony held at their campus in Semarang, Indonesia. The MoU is yet to be signed by UTM, with the official signing by their representative to follow soon.

The MoU was signed on behalf of Universitas Diponegoro by Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., Rector of UNDIP, and was witnessed by Prof. Dr. Kusworo Adi, S.Si., M.T., Dean of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, UNDIP. The document will next be presented to Prof. Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, Vice Chancellor of UTM, for final approval and signing.

This MoU marks a significant step toward enhancing academic and research collaboration between the two institutions, with key areas of cooperation highlighted in the agreement, including:

  1. Academic Activities: Collaborative academic programs and activities to promote mutual learning and knowledge exchange between students and staff.
  2. Joint Research: Both universities will engage in joint research projects in cutting-edge areas such as materials science, nanotechnology, and environmental studies, aimed at driving innovation and academic excellence.
  3. Staff and Student Exchange: The partnership will facilitate the exchange of academic staff and students, offering opportunities for cross-cultural learning and professional development.
  4. Visiting Professors and Lecturers: The MoU includes provisions for both universities to host visiting professors and lecturers, encouraging the sharing of expertise in various academic disciplines.
  5. Other Collaborative Initiatives: Any additional areas of academic cooperation mutually agreed upon by the parties.

This collaboration is expected to bring significant benefits to both universities by enhancing research capabilities, improving academic quality, and fostering stronger international ties. Once UTM’s signing is completed, the MoU will pave the way for greater cooperation, ultimately benefiting the academic communities of both Malaysia and Indonesia.
