Dr. Hang See Pheng and her team from the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) have been awarded a Bronze Medal at the New Academia Learning Innovation (NALI) 2024 for their project, “Engaging Academia and Industry in Teaching Operations Research Through Work-Based Learning.”
The project, developed with team members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zaitul Marlizawati Zainuddin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zarina Binti Mohd Khalid, Dr. Farhana Binti Johar, and Dr. Nur Arina Bazilah Aziz, focuses on integrating real-world industry experience into the academic curriculum through work-based learning. This innovative approach enhances students’ understanding of operations research by bridging theoretical knowledge with practical applications, preparing them for industry challenges.
The NALI 2024 event, hosted by UTM under the theme “Empowering Teaching and Research Connection through Innovation,” celebrates innovative educational strategies that connect academia and industry. This recognition aligns with UTM’s mission of “Innovating Solutions” and the Faculty of Science’s vision of “Where Great Minds are Nurtured.”
