Johor Bahru, 12 February 2025 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), successfully conducted a UTMFS Research Tutorial on Technology Readiness Level (TRL), featuring Prof. Madya Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Bin Nik Malek, Deputy Dean of Research, Innovation, and Development.

This engaging session provided valuable insights into the TRL framework, a crucial tool for researchers to assess and advance their technologies from fundamental research to commercialization. One of the key highlights of the tutorial was the use of Generative AI to develop TRL assessments based on fundamental research and the process of filing TRL assessments efficiently in INNOCOMMS, UTM’s intellectual property and commercialization platform.

Bridging Research and Innovation

During the session, Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam emphasized the importance of understanding TRL at different research stages to enhance the potential for industry collaboration and technology commercialization. He also demonstrated how Generative AI can assist in mapping TRL levels, providing a more systematic approach to technology validation.
