JOHOR BAHRU, 12 March 2025 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) continues to lead in technological innovation as Ts. ChM. Dr. Faizuan Bin Abdullah from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, successfully secures RM80,000 in funding from the Technology Implementation Fund (TIF).

The awarded project, titled “A Coupled Sensors System for Used Cooking Oil Quality Identification”, aims to develop an advanced sensor system that can efficiently analyze the quality of used cooking oil. This technology is crucial in ensuring food safety and sustainability, particularly in the food industry and household applications.

Enhancing Food Safety and Sustainable Practices

The coupled sensors system will provide a rapid and accurate assessment of used cooking oil to determine its usability. This innovation is expected to:

  • Prevent health risks associated with the repeated use of degraded cooking oil.
  • Support food industry compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Promote sustainability by encouraging the proper disposal and potential recycling of used oil.

Advancing UTM’s Role in Technological Solutions

With this funding, Dr. Faizuan’s project will contribute to Malaysia’s growing focus on technology-driven food safety solutions, aligning with UTM’s commitment to science, innovation, and community well-being.

The Faculty of Science congratulates Dr. Faizuan on this achievement and looks forward to the positive impact this research will have on public health and industrial applications.
