Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) continues to shine on the global stage as two prominent researchers from the Faculty of Science were invited speakers at the 7th International Conference on Bioscience and Medical Engineering (ICBME) and the 2nd Brawijaya International Conference on Pharmacy (BICP), held from 26–28 May 2025 in Malang, Indonesia. The event was jointly organized by the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya and brought together global experts in medical and bioscience fields under the theme “The Significance of Bioscience in the Advancement of Medical Science and Global Health.”

🔹 UTM’s Keynote Speaker: Prof. Fahrul Zaman Huyop

Prof. Fahrul Zaman bin Huyop from the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, delivered a keynote lecture on “Nutrigenomics and Microbiome Research in Southeast Asian Honey.”
His talk emphasized the therapeutic and scientific value of Southeast Asian honey, including its anti-diabetic properties and significance in nutrigenomics and food authenticity. Using advanced techniques like metabarcode analysis, Prof. Fahrul’s research highlights the potential of honey as both a functional food and a natural therapeutic agent.
His participation reflects UTM’s impactful contributions to global health and biosciences.

🔹 Parallel Session Speaker: Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek

Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Bin Nik Malek, also from the Department of Biosciences and Centre for Sustainable Nanomaterials (CSNano), presented in a parallel session with a talk titled:
“Antibacterial Activity of Biosynthesized Bauhinia kockiana-Silver Nanoparticles Incorporating Zeolite Y.”

The presentation shared findings on green-synthesized silver nanoparticles embedded in zeolite Y, showcasing enhanced antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The work contributes to eco-friendly material innovation suitable for biomedical and environmental applications.

These international engagements highlight UTM’s leadership in scientific research and global collaboration. The Faculty of Science commends both speakers for representing Malaysia and UTM with excellence in advancing bioscience and health research.
