JOHOR BAHRU, 24 June 2025 – The Faculty of Science at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully continued its Popular Science Seminar Series 2025 with an insightful session by Dr. Noorehan Yaacob, a Senior Lecturer from the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
The seminar, titled “Numerical Computation for Free Boundary of Ligand and Signal Transduction Associated with the Invadopodia Formation”, explored the role of mathematical and numerical modelling in understanding complex biological systems, particularly those related to cancer cell invasion mechanisms.
Held at UTM HELiX C17, the seminar gathered staff, students, and researchers keen to learn how free boundary problems and ligand-receptor interactions can be analysed through computational approaches. Dr. Noorehan’s work sheds light on how invadopodia—protrusive structures used by cancer cells to degrade extracellular matrices—can be better understood through simulations of signal transduction and ligand diffusion.
This session not only emphasized the interdisciplinary nature of current scientific challenges but also highlighted the importance of integrating mathematics with life sciences to address global health concerns. The seminar received positive feedback from attendees, who appreciated the clarity of the presentation and its relevance to both theoretical and applied research.
The Faculty of Science remains committed to fostering a collaborative and innovative environment through such seminar series, aiming to nurture great minds and inspire impactful scientific contributions.
