Johor Bahru, 23 July 2025 – The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Library hosted another exciting episode of its Knowledge Sharing Series, featuring a unique product innovation entitled “Hi-Red Roselle: From Lab Bench to Lifestyle.” This engaging session spotlighted the journey of a science-backed roselle-based spread developed by researchers from the Faculty of Science, UTM.

The featured panelist, Ts. Dr. Siti Pauliena Binti Mohd Bohari, a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Science, UTM, shared insights on the development process of the Hi-Red Roselle spread—from initial lab research to its transformation into a lifestyle product. The innovation reflects a successful integration of science and wellness, promoting local botanical resources such as Hibiscus sabdariffa (roselle) for health-enhancing food products.

Moderated by Dr. Nurzila Binti Ab Latif, also a Senior Lecturer from the Faculty of Science, the session highlighted not only the scientific breakthroughs behind the product, but also the challenges and strategies involved in commercializing functional foods through university research.

Held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and streamed live on Facebook Live and YouTube (UTM Library TV), the session attracted viewers from diverse backgrounds, including researchers, students, and entrepreneurs interested in nutraceuticals and food innovation.

This initiative underscores UTM’s commitment to promoting innovation and community well-being through translational research—transforming laboratory discoveries into tangible benefits for everyday life.
