PUTRAJAYA, 25 July 2025 – A team from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) proudly clinched Second Place (Naib Johan) in the Anugerah Inovasi Industri (Produk) category at the Hari Inovasi 2025, organised by the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM). The event was held from 22 to 24 July 2025 at Dewan Serbaguna, KPKM, Putrajaya.
The winning innovation, NapierMix TMR Silage, is a vacuum-sealed total mixed ration (TMR) silage product formulated to offer a complete and practical nutritional solution for ruminant livestock. With improved nutrient retention, extended shelf life, and sustainable handling, this product promotes modern and eco-friendly livestock practices.
The project was led by Dr. Mira Panadi from the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, who guided and supervised the development process from ideation to implementation. The research team also included Gan Lin Yong, a Bachelor of Science (Industrial Biology) student, and Gunaranigini Muniandy, a Master’s student—both of whom played key roles through their dedication and commitment to the innovation’s success.
The team was awarded a cash prize of RM2,500, further affirming UTM’s leadership in impactful, sustainable research in the veterinary and agricultural sectors.
Acknowledgement is also extended to the UTM Innovation and Commercialisation Centre (ICC) for their funding support under the SME Strategic Industry Collaboration Grant, which enabled successful collaboration with industry partners to commercialise the product.
This award stands as a testament to UTM’s continuous efforts in championing innovation, sustainability, and high-impact research aligned with national goals for food security and agricultural advancement.
