Johor Bahru, 18 August 2025 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) proudly celebrates the achievement of Prof. Madya Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam bin Nik Malek (Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science) and Prof. Madya ChM. Dr. Mohd Hayrie Mohd Hatta (Asia Metropolitan University, AMU) who received the Publication Award: Edited Book Award (Science & Technology Category) at Citra Karisma 2025 – UTM Excellence and Recognition Awards.
The recognition honours their editorial leadership of the 2024 volume Nanomaterials for Biomedical Application, an edited book that consolidates up-to-date, comprehensive insights on nanotechnology for health and modern medical care. Authored by experienced researchers from UTM, AMU and partner institutions, the book spans key themes including nanomaterial design and characterisation, drug delivery, tissue engineering, cancer therapy and medical diagnostics. Each chapter is written by specialists, ensuring scientific rigour while mapping future directions for graphene-, gold- and silver-based biomedical innovations.

Prof. Madya Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam bin Nik Malek serves as Deputy Dean (Research, Innovation & Development), Faculty of Science, and Acting Director, Centre for Sustainable Nanomaterials (CSNano), Ibnu Sina Institute. He has authored 120+ WoS-indexed articles, nine edited books and 29 book chapters, and was recognised as a Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM) 2023 by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia.

Prof. Madya ChM. Dr. Mohd Hayrie Mohd Hatta is a senior academic at Asia Metropolitan University (AMU) and an active collaborator with UTM in chemistry, nanomaterials and biomedical applications. As co-editor, he coordinated multi-institutional contributions and ensured methodological and editorial quality across the volume.
This Citra Karisma recognition underscores UTM’s leadership in impactful scholarship and translational nanotechnology, advancing national health and sustainability priorities.
