Johor Bahru, 18 August 2025 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) proudly congratulates Dr. Nor Arina Bazilah binti Kamisan and Dr. Noraslinda binti Mohamed Ismail from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, for receiving the Publication Award: Edited Book Award in the Social Science Category at the Citra Karisma 2025 – UTM Excellence and Recognition Awards Ceremony.

The award recognises their editorial work on the scholarly book “Statistical Modelling in Medical and Economic Data”, which provides an in-depth guide on the applications of statistical modelling in both healthcare and economic fields. Published by UTM Press in 2024, the book highlights practical approaches and real-case applications, making it an essential reference not only for researchers and academics but also for industry practitioners involved in data analysis.

The book is divided into two main sections. The first focuses on medical statistical modelling, covering topics such as cancer patient survival analysis, anaemia detection, lung function assessments, air pollution effects, and smoking cessation success rates. The second section addresses economic modelling, including studies on inflation rates, insurance policy analysis, and food price predictions, using a wide range of statistical techniques such as Bayesian, Monte Carlo, regression, ARIMA, and fuzzy logic models. This structure ensures comprehensive coverage of both theoretical approaches and real-world applications.
