JOHOR BAHRU, 23 October 2025 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) hosted another enlightening session of its Science Seminar Series, featuring Assist. Prof. Dr. Haruka Takeuchi from the Research Centre for Environmental Quality Management, Kyoto University, Japan.

Her talk, titled “Occurrence and Fate of Trace Organic Chemicals at a Wastewater Treatment Plant,” delved into the pressing issue of how trace organic compounds—such as pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and industrial chemicals—persist and transform during wastewater treatment processes.

Dr. Takeuchi highlighted the need for advanced monitoring and management strategies to mitigate environmental and health risks associated with these contaminants. Her research underscores the importance of understanding chemical pathways within treatment systems to ensure safer water discharge and sustainable environmental protection.

The seminar, held at HELIxS Room, C17, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., attracted faculty members, researchers, and postgraduate students interested in environmental science, analytical chemistry, and wastewater technology.

As part of UTM’s commitment to continuous professional development, participants also received CPD recognition for their attendance. The event reinforced the Faculty of Science’s dedication to promoting global research collaboration and sharing of knowledge in tackling environmental challenges.
