Johor Bahru, 2025 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through its Knowledge Transfer Program (KTP@Faculty), successfully conducted an impactful outreach initiative titled “STEM & Chemistry Career Program.” Led by ChM. Ts. Dr. Mohamad Shazwan Shah Jamil, the program aimed to ignite students’ curiosity in science and chemistry while introducing creative learning methods that make scientific knowledge more accessible and enjoyable.
Supported by an experienced academic team including Dr. Mohd Fuad Mohamad, ChM. Dr. Sheela Chandren, ChM. Dr. Muhammad Amirul Aizat Mohd Abdah, Dr. Muhamad Iqbal Jalaludin, Dr. Naharullah Jamaluddin, Dr. Khairil Juhanni Abd Karim, Dr. Nurul Hidayah Abdul Razak, and Dr. Najaa Mustaffa, the initiative successfully bridged the gap between theory and practice, helping students appreciate the real-world relevance of chemistry in sustainable living and innovation.
The program featured two major activities — a Career Talk and a Hands-on Workshop on Soap Making from Used Cooking Oil. The career talk highlighted diverse professional pathways in chemistry, inspiring students to consider careers in research, industry, and education. Meanwhile, the soap-making workshop encouraged environmental awareness by teaching participants to recycle household waste while applying basic chemical concepts.
The initiative received overwhelmingly positive feedback from students and teachers. Many participants reported that the experience changed their perception of chemistry, making them more enthusiastic about pursuing STEM-related studies. Teachers also expressed appreciation for the engaging teaching approach, noting that such activities can complement classroom learning and nurture students’ scientific thinking.
The program’s long-term impact extends beyond the event itself. The team is currently developing a teaching module based on the activities to be used by schools and educators in future STEM programs. This aligns with UTM’s continuous effort to empower communities through education and innovation, reinforcing the Faculty of Science’s role as a national leader in science communication and public engagement.

Seminar KTP UTM Semarakkan Minat Pelajar terhadap STEM dan Kerjaya Kimia
Johor Bahru, 2025 – Fakulti Sains, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) menerusi program KTP@Faculty (Knowledge Transfer Program) telah berjaya melaksanakan satu inisiatif komuniti bertajuk “STEM & Kerjaya Kimia.” Program ini diketuai oleh ChM. Ts. Dr. Mohamad Shazwan Shah Jamil dengan matlamat untuk memupuk minat pelajar terhadap bidang sains dan kimia melalui pendekatan pembelajaran yang kreatif, interaktif dan menyeronokkan.
Program ini disokong oleh barisan pensyarah berpengalaman iaitu Dr. Mohd Fuad Mohamad, ChM. Dr. Sheela Chandren, ChM. Dr. Muhammad Amirul Aizat Mohd Abdah, Dr. Muhamad Iqbal Jalaludin, Dr. Naharullah Jamaluddin, Dr. Khairil Juhanni Abd Karim, Dr. Nurul Hidayah Abdul Razak dan Dr. Najaa Mustaffa. Mereka bersama-sama membangunkan aktiviti yang menggabungkan teori sains dengan amalan sebenar, bagi meningkatkan kefahaman pelajar tentang peranan kimia dalam kehidupan harian dan kelestarian alam sekitar.
Antara aktiviti utama yang dijalankan ialah Taklimat Kerjaya dan Aktiviti Amali “Sabun daripada Minyak Masak Terpakai.” Melalui taklimat kerjaya, pelajar didedahkan kepada pelbagai prospek pekerjaan dalam bidang kimia seperti penyelidik, saintis industri, pensyarah dan ahli kimia profesional. Aktiviti amali pula memberikan pengalaman pembelajaran secara hands-on, di mana pelajar mempelajari konsep tindak balas kimia sambil menerapkan kesedaran terhadap amalan kitar semula dan kelestarian sumber.
Maklum balas daripada peserta amat positif, dengan ramai pelajar menyatakan bahawa pengalaman ini meningkatkan minat mereka terhadap subjek kimia dan membuka pandangan baharu terhadap bidang STEM. Guru-guru turut menghargai pendekatan pembelajaran yang lebih menarik, yang mampu melengkapkan pengajaran di bilik darjah serta membantu membina pemikiran saintifik pelajar.
Kesan jangka panjang program ini turut disokong dengan usaha pembinaan modul pengajaran STEM, yang akan digunakan dalam aktiviti pendidikan dan bengkel sekolah di masa hadapan. Inisiatif ini mencerminkan komitmen UTM dalam memperkasa komuniti melalui pendidikan sains dan inovasi, serta memperkukuh peranan Fakulti Sains sebagai peneraju dalam penyebaran ilmu dan pemupukan budaya saintifik di Malaysia.
