Johor Bahru, 8 November 2025 — The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly congratulates Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. Roswanira Abdul Wahab from the Department of Chemistry for successfully securing the Prototype Research Grant Scheme (PRGS) under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Malaysia.

Dr. Roswanira was awarded RM256,000.00 for her project titled “Scale-up Development of the Nanobiobased Candida rugosa Lipase Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes as Latent Fingerprint Visualizing Reagent Prototype for Forensic Application.”

This innovative research focuses on advancing a nanobiobased prototype that utilizes Candida rugosa lipase immobilized on multiwalled carbon nanotubes to visualize latent fingerprints with high sensitivity and resolution. The developed prototype is designed for forensic and criminal investigation applications, offering a more sustainable, bio-friendly, and cost-effective alternative to conventional chemical reagents.

The project represents a critical step toward translating fundamental nanomaterial research into practical forensic technology that supports national law enforcement and security agencies. The scale-up development aims to bridge laboratory innovation with real-world implementation, aligning with the PRGS objective to accelerate the commercialization readiness of promising research outputs.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Roswanira’s achievement reflects UTM’s strong research capacity in applied nanoscience, biotechnology, and forensic chemistry, showcasing how interdisciplinary innovation can lead to impactful societal applications. Her work continues to strengthen the Faculty’s reputation as a hub for innovative sustainable solutions in science and technology.

The Faculty of Science extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Roswanira for her outstanding achievement and contribution toward advancing Malaysia’s research and innovation landscape.
