JOHOR BAHRU, 18 November 2025 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly congratulates Dr. Fazilah binti Abd Manan from the Department of Biosciences for successfully securing a UTM Fundamental Research (UTM-FR) grant worth RM70,000. This achievement demonstrates UTM’s continuous dedication to strengthening fundamental biological research with impactful applications in agriculture and environmental sustainability.

Her research project, titled “Elucidating Molecular Plant Root Responses to Insect-Derived Frass Using Morpho-Physiological and Proteomics Approaches,” aims to uncover how plant roots react at the molecular level when exposed to frass—nutrient-rich organic matter produced by insects. By integrating morphological studies, physiological analysis, and advanced proteomics, this research will provide valuable insights into plant–insect interactions and the potential use of frass as a natural soil enhancer.

The findings are expected to contribute significantly to sustainable agriculture practices, offering new understanding of plant nutrient uptake, stress responses, and organic soil amendments.
