On 9th December, the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), teamed up with the College of Biomedical Informatics, UoITC Baghdad, to host an inspiring Global Online Seminar on Sustainable Science. The virtula event was officially officiated by the Head of Biosciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alina Wagiran, and brought together 67 eager minds—students, faculty, and staff—from both institutions to explore the fascinating intersection of Bioinformatics and Ecology in the Digital Era.

The webinar featured brilliant insights from speakers across continents:

  • Dr. Mohammed Fadil Zamil, Dr. Imad Qasim Habeeb, and Dr. Monerra Abed Hamdi from College of Biomedical Informatics, UoITC Baghdad wowed the audience with talks on Big Data Analysis and AI-Driven Disease Prediction.
  • Prof. Datin Dr. Zaharah Ibrahim and Dr. Mohd. Farizal Ahmad Kamaroddin from UTM shared innovative approaches in bioremediation and ecology management using microbes and microalgae.

Highlights included eye-opening discussions on how AI and Big Data are transforming healthcare and ecological research, and creative ideas for integrating advanced bioinformatics into Biology courses. Students and staff actively participated in Q&A sessions, exchanging ideas and building bridges across borders.

“It was amazing to see how research from different countries can come together and spark new opportunities for learning,” said one enthusiastic UTM student.

The event was a huge success, showcasing the strong collaboration between UTM and UoITC and the exciting potential of cross-institutional knowledge-sharing. 🌍✨ Stay tuned for more events that bring science, technology, and sustainability together!
