Johor Bahru, Malaysia – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly celebrates another outstanding international achievement by its Department of Physics, as a research team secured two prestigious awards at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2025, held in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
The team won the Gold Medal and was further honoured with the Best Invention (Special Award), presented by The First Institute of Researchers and Inventors (FIRI), Iran, for their innovative project entitled “Wireless Transmission System for Radiation Portal Monitoring (MyRPM)”.
Led by Prof. Dr. Suhairul Hashim as Project Leader, the award-winning team comprises Dr. Mohamad Syazwan Mohd Sanusi, Dr. Razif Razali, Dr. Nor Ezzaty Ahmad, Ts. Dr. Fariza Hanim Suhailin, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abd Rashid Mohd Yusoff. Their collective expertise in physics and applied instrumentation enabled the successful development of a reliable wireless system for real-time radiation portal monitoring.
The MyRPM system addresses critical challenges in radiation safety by enhancing monitoring efficiency, data transmission reliability, and operational safety. Its potential applications span border security, industrial radiation facilities, nuclear-related environments, and research institutions, making it a highly impactful technological solution with strong societal relevance.
Receiving both the Gold Medal and the Best Invention Special Award underscores the originality, technical excellence, and international competitiveness of the innovation. This achievement further reinforces UTM’s reputation as a leading research university and highlights the Faculty of Science’s commitment to translating scientific research into meaningful real-world applications.
