Johor Bahru, 1 January 2026 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), marks an important leadership transition at the Ibnu Sina Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (ISI-SIR), reflecting both appreciation for past service and confidence in future direction.

The Faculty extends its highest appreciation and gratitude to Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek, Prof. Madya Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam bin Nik Malek, for his dedication, commitment, and exemplary service during his tenure as Director of ISI-SIR. Under his leadership, ISI-SIR strengthened its research ecosystem, expanded interdisciplinary collaborations, and enhanced its role in scientific and industrial research aligned with national priorities. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the institute and the wider UTM research community.

At the same time, the Faculty congratulates Muhammad Safwan Abd. Aziz, Prof. Madya Ts. Dr. Muhammad Safwan Abd. Aziz from the Department of Physics, on his appointment as the new Director of ISI-SIR, effective 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027. His appointment signals continuity and renewed momentum in advancing high-impact research, industry engagement, and translational outcomes.

The Faculty of Science UTM, together with the entire UTM community, expresses sincere appreciation to Prof. Madya Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek for his service and extends best wishes to Prof. Madya Ts. Dr. Muhammad Safwan Abd. Aziz in leading ISI-SIR towards greater excellence.
