JOHOR BAHRU, 1 September 2026 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), continued its Science Seminar Series 2026 with a seminar entitled “Surviving the Fourth Industrial Revolution through Mathematics.”
The session featured Prof. Dr. Kim Hyun-Min, Director of the Industrial Mathematics Center, Pusan National University, South Korea, who shared perspectives on the increasingly important role of mathematics in navigating the technological transformation associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Held at HELIxS, C17, Faculty of Science, UTM, the seminar highlighted how mathematical thinking, modelling and analytical approaches can support innovation across rapidly developing fields driven by digitalisation, automation and advanced technologies.
During the session, Prof. Dr. Kim discussed the relevance of mathematics as a fundamental tool for understanding complex systems, solving industrial problems and supporting data-driven decision-making. The seminar also illustrated how mathematical knowledge can contribute to emerging technological areas and strengthen the connection between academic research and industrial applications.
The programme provided academic staff, researchers and students with an opportunity to broaden their understanding of the contribution of mathematics to contemporary scientific and technological challenges.
The seminar also reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly in connecting mathematics with engineering, computing, data science and industrial innovation.
Through the Science Seminar Series, the Faculty of Science continues to provide a platform for international knowledge exchange and engagement with distinguished researchers from leading institutions around the world.
