JOHOR BAHRU – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly congratulates Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhaiza Ahmad from the Department of Mathematical Sciences on successfully securing a research grant worth RM110,000 under the Exploratory and Transformative Research Grant (GET), Phase 1, funded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Malaysia.

The awarded research project, entitled “A New Manifold-Based Co-Clustering Multidimensional Model for Subpopulation Poverty Pattern Identification,” focuses on developing an advanced mathematical approach to identifying and understanding poverty patterns among different population groups.

The research aims to introduce a novel manifold-based co-clustering model that integrates multidimensional data analysis with advanced mathematical techniques. This approach seeks to uncover complex relationships among socioeconomic indicators and identify distinct poverty patterns that may be difficult to detect using conventional statistical methods.

Poverty is a multidimensional challenge influenced by interconnected factors such as income, education, employment, living conditions, and access to essential services. By examining these factors simultaneously, the proposed mathematical model could provide deeper insights into poverty characteristics across different subpopulations.

Through the application of mathematical modelling, data analytics, and computational techniques, the research has the potential to support more accurate identification of vulnerable population groups. The findings could contribute to evidence-based policymaking, targeted poverty alleviation strategies, and more effective allocation of socioeconomic development resources.

This research highlights the important role of mathematical sciences in addressing real-world socioeconomic challenges. It also demonstrates how advanced analytical methods can contribute to a better understanding of social inequalities and support sustainable development initiatives.

The successful acquisition of this competitive research grant reflects Dr. Norhaiza’s commitment to advancing innovative mathematical research with meaningful societal applications. This achievement further strengthens the Faculty of Science’s research excellence and aligns with UTM ASCEND 2030, particularly in promoting impactful research, data-driven innovation, and scientific contributions towards societal well-being.

The Faculty of Science extends its heartfelt congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhaiza Ahmad on this achievement and wishes her continued success in advancing mathematical research that contributes to poverty analysis, socioeconomic development, and improved community well-being.
