JOHOR BAHRU – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly congratulates Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raja Kamarulzaman Raja Ibrahim from the Department of Physics on successfully securing a consultancy project worth RM11,448 in collaboration with Little Caliphs Kindergarten.

The consultancy project, entitled “Empowering Young Learners: Building an Early Childhood STEM Laboratory,” focuses on developing an innovative and engaging learning environment that introduces young children to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) through practical and interactive activities.

The initiative aims to establish an early childhood STEM laboratory that encourages curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills among kindergarten students. By introducing fundamental scientific concepts through hands-on learning experiences, the project seeks to nurture children’s interest in science and technology from an early age.

A key aspect of the consultancy involves exploring age-appropriate STEM learning materials, interactive experiments, and inquiry-based educational activities. These approaches are intended to help young learners understand basic scientific principles through observation, exploration, and discovery while making STEM education enjoyable and accessible.

Early exposure to STEM education is increasingly recognised as an important foundation for developing scientific literacy and essential learning skills. Through a well-designed laboratory environment, children can gain opportunities to explore scientific concepts, develop confidence in experimentation, and strengthen their analytical and creative thinking abilities.

The collaboration between UTM and Little Caliphs Kindergarten highlights the importance of university–industry partnerships and knowledge transfer in strengthening early childhood education. By applying academic expertise to practical educational needs, the project demonstrates how university-driven initiatives can create meaningful benefits beyond higher education.

This consultancy also reflects the Faculty of Science’s commitment to translating scientific knowledge into practical applications, particularly in supporting educational innovation and developing future generations of STEM learners.

The achievement aligns with the aspirations of UTM ASCEND 2030, particularly in advancing impactful knowledge transfer, strengthening external collaborations, promoting educational innovation, and contributing to societal development.

The Faculty of Science extends its heartfelt congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raja Kamarulzaman Raja Ibrahim on this achievement and wishes him continued success in implementing the project, which has the potential to inspire young minds and strengthen the foundations of STEM education in Malaysia.
