The Faculty of Science at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) proudly announces that Dr. Taufiq Khairi Ahmad Khairuddin and his team from the Department of Mathematical Sciences have been awarded the Bronze Medal at the New Academia Learning Innovation (NALI) 2024. The team’s project, titled “An Application of Paraboloid in Depicting the Real Shape of a Charcoal Kiln Based on Data from Terrestrial Laser Scanning,” was recognized for its innovative approach to applying mathematical modeling to real-world environmental applications.

Collaborating with team members Dr. Ahmad Fadillah Embong, Dr. Mohammad Izat Emir Zulkifly, and Dr. Mohd Ali Khameini Ahmad, Dr. Taufiq’s project utilizes paraboloid modeling techniques to accurately capture the shape and structure of charcoal kilns. By leveraging terrestrial laser scanning data, the team’s work contributes to more precise and effective methods of environmental monitoring and structural analysis, demonstrating the practical impact of mathematical sciences.

NALI 2024, which emphasizes “Empowering Teaching & Research Connection through Innovation,” serves as a platform for innovative educational and research methodologies. The recognition of UTM’s project aligns with the university’s mission of “Innovating Solutions” and the Faculty of Science’s commitment to “Where Great Minds are Nurtured.”

The Faculty of Science extends its congratulations to Dr. Taufiq Khairi Ahmad Khairuddin and his team for their accomplishment, which reflects UTM’s dedication to advancing research that bridges academic knowledge and real-world applications.
