Johor Bahru, 6–7 May 2025 – The 10th International Conference and Workshop on Basic and Applied Sciences (ICOWOBAS 2025), hosted at Le Grandeur Palm Resort, Senai, Johor Bahru, brought together a vibrant international gathering of researchers, scientists, academics, and industry professionals under the theme “Innovative Science for a Smarter and Sustainable Future.”

Organized by the Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), the two-day conference was co-hosted in partnership with Tishk International University and Salahaddin University from Iraq, as well as Universitas Airlangga from Indonesia. The event emphasized cross-border collaboration and the exchange of cutting-edge scientific knowledge across disciplines.

The opening ceremony was graced by UTM Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafry bin Mohd Rahim, who delivered the officiating address, followed by a welcome speech by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shafinaz Shahir, Dean of the Faculty of Science. A symbolic gimmick presentation marked the official launch of ICOWOBAS 2025, signaling a strong commitment to scientific advancement.

Esteemed keynote speakers included Datuk Prof. Ulung Dr. Harith Ahmad (Universiti Malaya), Prof. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi (Tishk International University), Dr. Iqbal Shamsudheen (PETCO Trading Labuan), and Prof. Dr. Ni’Matuzahroh (Universitas Airlangga), who each shared groundbreaking insights on topics ranging from fiber optic sensing to sustainable biosurfactants. Plenary sessions continued with impactful talks by Asst. Dr. Idris Hadi Saleh, Assoc. Prof. Rainer Helmut Dumke, and Prof. Dr. Fatchiyah, addressing themes in international education, quantum technology, and nutritional sciences.

A highlight of the conference was the signing of Memoranda of Agreement (MoA) and Understanding (MoU), solidifying UTM’s collaborations with Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Tishk International University, and Universitas Airlangga. These agreements pave the way for joint research projects, academic mobility, and long-term academic cooperation.

ICOWOBAS 2025 also showcased active engagement with industry, supported by key sponsors including Inno Lab Engineering, Skinlab Biochem Resources, RGS Corporation, Pure Aims Technologies, Biogenes Technologies, and Felda Plantation Management. Industry-academia dialogues explored the practical impact of scientific innovation on biotechnology, diagnostics, and agricultural technologies.

With more than 150 oral and poster presentations delivered in parallel sessions, the conference provided a dynamic platform for sharing research outcomes. Exceptional presentations were honored with Best Poster and Best Presenter Awards, celebrating excellence in scientific communication.
