JOHOR BAHRU, 13 May 2025 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), continued its Faculty of Science Seminar Series 2025 with an engaging session under the Popular Science Seminar Series, featuring Dr. Fuaada Mohd Siam, a Senior Lecturer from the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

Held at Dewan Kuliah 1, C17, the seminar entitled “A Mechanistic Approach to Modelling Radiation-Induced Cell Damage Using Mathematical Optimization” drew keen interest from faculty members, researchers, and students. The session, scheduled from 2.30 PM to 3.30 PM, explored how mathematical tools can be harnessed to better understand biological damage caused by radiation exposure—an area with profound implications in medical, nuclear, and space-related fields.

Dr. Fuaada presented an innovative framework that combines mechanistic modelling and mathematical optimization, offering a novel lens for interpreting complex biological processes. Her work demonstrates the interdisciplinary strength of mathematical sciences in addressing real-world biomedical challenges.

This seminar is part of UTM’s broader initiative to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and promote impactful science through accessible and engaging public seminars.
