Yogyakarta, 11 September 2024 – Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) recently hosted an international public lecture, “Discovery of New Chemistry Applications,” with a keynote presentation by Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. Norazah Basar from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The event, held at the FMIPA Auditorium at UII, introduced new chemistry students to groundbreaking developments in chemistry and its evolving applications in the modern world.
Dr. Norazah Basar currently serves as the Deputy Dean (Academic) at the Faculty of Science, UTM, where she plays a pivotal role in shaping academic strategies and leading curriculum development. In addition to her administrative duties, she is also an active member of the Natural Products Research Group under the Health and Wellness Research Alliance, UTM. Her research focuses on the isolation and synthesis of bioactive natural products, particularly in the areas of medicinal plant compounds and their potential therapeutic applications.
In her lecture, Dr. Norazah emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in chemistry and their real-world applications, especially in industries such as pharmaceuticals and materials science. She highlighted recent advancements in organic synthesis and phytochemical research, offering insights into how natural compounds can be harnessed for medicinal and technological innovations.
This international collaboration between UTM and UII reinforces the importance of cross-border knowledge sharing in advancing scientific research. Dr. Norazah’s lecture inspired the next generation of chemists at UII, encouraging them to explore chemistry’s vast potential to address modern challenges.
