A delegation from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), comprising  Assoc Prof Ts ChM Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek (Deputy Dean (Research, Development and Innovation)), Faculty of Science, UTM and Ts ChM Dr. Nor Suriani Sani (Senior Research Officer, Institute of Humen Centred Engineering), UTM, visited the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) to strengthen research collaborations and discuss ongoing projects as part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities. The UTM team engaged in productive discussions with key academic figures from UB, including Dr. Husnul Khotimah (Vice Dean of General Field and Financial), Dr. Shahdevi Nandar Kurniawan (Vice Dean of Student Affairs), Dr. Happy Permatasari, and Prof. Dr. Agustina from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya.

Key Agenda Points:

  1. In Vivo Animal Testing (Skin Irritation Test):
Discussions were held on conducting skin irritation tests on animal models to evaluate prototype products developed from PDF2. These tests are critical for assessing the safety and effectiveness of the prototypes.
  2. Inflammatory Effects of Product Prototypes:
The potential inflammatory effects of the prototype products were also discussed, ensuring that they meet safety standards before progressing to the next phase of development.
  3. Book Chapter Collaboration:
UTM and UB lecturers are co-authoring a book chapter titled Nanotechnology in Medical Science. This project highlights the interdisciplinary collaboration between the institutions, focusing on the role of nanotechnology in medical advancements.
  4. Visit to Animal Testing Facility:
The delegation toured UB’s animal testing facility, where ongoing biomedical research is conducted. This visit provided valuable insights into UB’s capabilities, laying the groundwork for future joint research initiatives.

This visit marks an important milestone in strengthening the partnership between UTM and UB, advancing research in medical science, particularly in the areas of nanotechnology and product safety evaluation. The collaboration exemplifies the commitment of both institutions to contributing to global advancements in medical research through innovative interdisciplinary efforts.
