Ts. ChM. Dr. Faizuan Abdullah and Team Shine at GUCI 2024 with Oil2Wang Kiosk Innovation

In a remarkable achievement, Ts. ChM. Dr. Faizuan Abdullah from the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and his team have been honored with both the Best of The Best Award and the Gold Award at the Synergistic Government-University-Community-Industry Sustainable Collaboration Seminar 2024 (GUCI 2024). Their project, the Oil2Wang – Smart IoT Used Cooking Oil Collection Kiosk , was recognized for its innovative approach to promoting sustainability through the recycling of used cooking oil.

The awards were presented by YB Dato’ Hj. Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, Chairman of the Johor State Housing and Local Government Committee, at the event, which was organized by Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri (MBIP), UTM, Iskandar Malaysia, Sunway, SWM Corporation, and other sponsors.

Dr. Faizuan and his team’s success in this initiative is a testament to their dedication to environmental sustainability and effective collaboration across various sectors. The Oil2Wang Kiosk has proven to be a vital contribution to recycling and reducing waste in the community.

Dr. Faizuan expressed his gratitude to Iskandar Puteri Rendah Karbon for their early-stage support through the Iskandar Puteri Low Carbon 2.0 grant, and to the Malaysian Petroleum Resources Corporation for their sponsorship through the OGSE DG grant. He also thanked all parties who have contributed directly and indirectly to the success of the Oil2Wang initiative.

This recognition highlights the team’s outstanding contribution to sustainability efforts, as they continue to pave the way for greener practices.
