The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly congratulates Mr. Chew Zi Khang from the Department of Chemistry for securing the Overseas Research Grant from the Kurita Water and Environment Foundation (KWEF), Japan, amounting to JPY 400,000.
Mr. Chew’s research, titled “Impactful Monitoring Based on Novel Electroseparation Technique for Emerging Polyethylene and Polypropylene Nanoplastic Contaminants in Malaysia Environmental Water,” is set to run from October 2025 to September 2026. The study addresses the increasing environmental threat posed by nanoplastics and proposes a new electroseparation method for enhanced detection and analysis of these pollutants in Malaysia’s water ecosystems.
This outstanding achievement is made under the supervision of:
-
Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. Aemi Syazwani Abdul Keyon (Main Supervisor),
-
ChM. Dr. Fazira Ilyana Abdul Razak, and
-
Prof. Dr. Michael Breadmore.
This international research grant reflects the global recognition of UTM’s postgraduate talent and its commitment to cutting-edge research in environmental chemistry and sustainability. The project also strengthens UTM’s research footprint in developing innovative, real-world solutions for pollution monitoring and environmental safety.
The Faculty of Science extends its warmest congratulations to Mr. Chew Zi Khang and his supervisors for this impactful milestone and wishes them continued success.
