Johor Bahru, 27 Aug 2024 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) celebrated another shining achievement within its academic community as Professor Dr. Suhairul Hashim, from the Faculty of Science, was awarded the Industry Engagement Award (Academic Staff Category) for 2023. This prestigious award was presented during the annual Citra Karisma 2024 ceremony, held to recognize excellence and outstanding contributions across the university.

Professor Suhairul Hashim has been serving as the Deputy Dean (Development, Facility, and Infrastructure) at the Faculty of Science until 31 July 2024. Prior to this, he held the position of Deputy Director (Radiation and Biosafety) at the Office of Occupational Safety, Health and Environment (OSHE) for three terms since 2015. His expertise and dedication in the field of radiation safety were acknowledged by the Malaysian Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB), appointing him as a certified Radiation Protection Officer in the Nuclear Gauge category.

His involvement in multiple significant projects, including leading a MyLAB project worth RM1.645 million and a RM4 million project with NTIS (National Technology & Innovation Sandbox), has demonstrated his exceptional capabilities in industry engagement. These projects emphasize his dedication to bridging academic research with industrial applications, particularly in the nuclear science and technology sectors.

Professor Suhairul’s contribution extends beyond the national level as well. His collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has led to invitations to high-profile international events and conferences in Vienna, Austria, and New Mexico, USA.

This award is a testament to Professor Suhairul’s tireless efforts in driving research, industry collaboration, and global impact, positioning UTM at the forefront of science and technology innovation.
