Johor Bahru, 22 October 2025 — The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), had the honour of welcoming a distinguished delegation from the Henan Institute of Science and Technology (HIST), China. The visit, held on 22 October 2025, signifies a key milestone in the ongoing academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.
The delegation from HIST included Mr. Song Yawei, Secretary; Prof. Dr. Chai Lei, Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence; and Miss Fong Xia, Director of the International Office. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen ties and explore new avenues for research collaboration, academic exchange, and postgraduate training between HIST and UTM.
Over the years, the partnership between HIST and UTM has grown steadily, with several postgraduate students from China enrolling directly into UTM’s MPhil and PhD programmes, particularly within the Faculty of Science. These students benefit from co-supervision arrangements involving researchers from both institutions, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas and expertise while promoting joint research initiatives.
Currently, the Faculty of Science hosts four postgraduate students under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Goh Kian Mau from the Department of Biosciences, UTM, in collaboration with renowned Prof. Dr. Zhang Shoutao from HIST. This collaborative effort underscores both universities’ commitment to nurturing global scientific talent and advancing cross-border academic excellence.
The Faculty of Science expressed its sincere appreciation to the HIST delegation for their visit and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening future academic and research collaborations. The meeting concluded with mutual enthusiasm for expanding joint supervision, exchange programmes, and innovative research projects that contribute to global scientific advancement.
