Johor Bahru, 8 November 2025 — The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of four researchers from the Department of Mathematical Sciences who have successfully secured the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) awarded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Malaysia.
These prestigious grants recognise innovative research that advances mathematical modeling, environmental sustainability, and applied computational analysis—reflecting the department’s commitment to pioneering impactful scientific contributions.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shariffah Suhaila Syed Jamaludin received RM107,800.00 for her project titled “A Novel Integrated Multi-Order Markov Chains and Hierarchical Copula Structures for Tropical Wet-Day Dynamics.” Her research focuses on improving rainfall modeling and prediction accuracy for tropical climates through advanced probabilistic frameworks.
Dr. Farhana Johar was awarded RM101,400.00 for her project, “Advancing Fundamental Modeling of Leachate Generation by Integrating Evapotranspirative Losses in Malaysia’s High-Humidity Landfills.” The study aims to enhance environmental sustainability by refining landfill leachate modeling and incorporating hydrological and climatic interactions.
Dr. Muhamad Hanis Mohd Nasir secured RM126,400.00 for his research on “Development of Type-2 Diabetic Population Model with Time-Delay Parameter in Disease Progression and Complication.” His project seeks to provide a deeper understanding of diabetes progression dynamics through mathematical modeling, contributing to better disease management strategies.
Prof. Dr. Sharidan bin Shafie received RM70,500.00 for his project entitled “Magnetohydrodynamic Ternary Hybrid Nanofluid Dynamics on Inclined Surfaces with Melting Effects.” His work explores hybrid nanofluid behaviors under magnetic and thermal influences, with applications in energy and materials engineering.
Collectively, these projects reflect the Faculty’s strong interdisciplinary approach—bridging mathematics with environmental science, health modeling, and advanced materials research.
The Faculty of Science extends its heartfelt congratulations to all award recipients for their dedication, innovation, and contributions toward advancing UTM’s research excellence.
