JOHOR BAHRU, 18 November 2025 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly congratulates Dr. Amirah Farhan Kamaruddin from the Department of Chemistry for successfully securing a Geran Penyelidik Baharu amounting to RM20,000. This achievement reflects UTM’s continuous commitment to advancing impactful scientific research that addresses national and global challenges.

Her funded project, “Modification of Bilirubin Oxidase-based Biosensor for Quantification of Heavy Metals in Food Samples and Associated Health Risk Assessment,” focuses on developing an innovative biosensing platform capable of detecting harmful heavy metals in food sources with higher accuracy and reliability. The outcomes of this study are expected to contribute significantly to public health, strengthen food safety monitoring, and support Malaysia’s efforts in ensuring safe consumption standards.

This accomplishment also highlights the strong research culture within the Faculty of Science, which continues to empower its researchers in delivering sustainable, innovative solutions aligned with the nation’s scientific priorities.
