Johor Bahru, 10 December 2025 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia successfully hosted the UTM Professorial Inaugural Lecture Series No. 122, delivered by Prof. Ts. Dr. Muhammad Hisyam Lee from the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The lecture was held at Dewan Senat Ainuddin Wahid, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Titled “Statistics as an Amanah: From Data to Destiny in Building a Nation of Excellence,” the lecture offered profound insights into the ethical responsibilities of statistics in shaping national development. Prof. Hisyam emphasised that data, when guided by integrity, values, and accountability, serves as a powerful instrument for just governance, evidence-based policymaking, and societal well-being—particularly in the era of data science and artificial intelligence.

The session was further enriched by an insightful review from YBhg. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin, Chief Statistician of Malaysia, who highlighted the critical role of trustworthy statistics in national planning and decision-making. The lecture was expertly chaired by Prof. Dr. Sharidan Shafie, fostering a dynamic discussion that drew strong engagement from academics, researchers, and students.
