The Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), successfully organised the Programme Showcase Industri & Inovasi Fakulti Sains (SIIFS) 2025 at the departmental level on 4–5 December 2025. Held at the Auditorium Al-Razi and Lobby T02, Faculty of Science, the two-day programme attracted 267 participants, comprising administrators, academic and support staff, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The programme was officiated by Prof. Madya Dr. Sabrinah Adam, Timbalan Pengarah (Jaringan Industri), Pusat Jaringan Komuniti dan Industri and speech given by Prof. Madya Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek, Deputy Dean (Research, Innovation and Development), Faculty of Science, UTM representing the Dean of Faculty of SCience, UTM. SIIFS 2025 served as a strategic platform to enhance engagement between academia and industry while showcasing the Department of Biosciences’ research strengths, academic offerings, and innovation capabilities.

Several key agencies and industry partners participated, including Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Bioeconomy Corporation, and Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM). Through the collaboration with Bioeconomy Corporation, representatives from Biocon Sdn. Bhd., CytoMed Therapeutics Sdn. Bhd., and Protenga Sdn. Bhd. were invited to deliver industrial talks and engage directly with students and researchers. These sessions opened pathways for career opportunities, industrial training, talent matching, consultancy projects, and joint research initiatives.

Three main showcase components were featured: the Industry Showcase, Academic Staff Research Showcase, and Undergraduate Module Preview. Together, these exhibits highlighted ongoing research projects, expertise of academic staff, and the structure of undergraduate programmes, offering visitors a comprehensive view of the department’s academic and innovation ecosystem.

Overall, SIIFS 2025 at the Department of Biosciences level was successfully implemented with strong coordination and high commitment from the organising committee. Despite operating within a limited budget, the programme achieved its objectives of strengthening industry linkages, enhancing research visibility, and supporting UTM’s agenda on innovation, commercialisation, and graduate employability.
