JOHOR BAHRU, 12 May 2026 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), successfully organized another impactful session under the Popular Science Seminar Series featuring a compelling presentation by Dr. Mohd Ariff Admon from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, UTM.
The seminar, entitled “Understanding Cancer Invasion: Progress in Mathematical Modelling of Finger-like Protrusion Formation”, was conducted virtually via Google Meet and gathered participants comprising academic staff, researchers, postgraduate students, and members of the scientific community interested in interdisciplinary cancer research.
During the seminar, Dr. Mohd Ariff Admon shared recent developments in the application of mathematical modelling to better understand the mechanisms of cancer invasion, particularly the formation of finger-like protrusions that enable cancer cells to migrate and spread into surrounding tissues. The session highlighted how mathematical and computational approaches can provide deeper insights into tumour progression and cellular dynamics, contributing towards the advancement of predictive cancer studies and therapeutic strategies.
The presentation also emphasized the growing importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between mathematics, biology, and medical sciences in addressing complex biomedical challenges. Through simulation models and analytical frameworks, mathematical sciences continue to play a significant role in supporting biomedical innovation and enhancing understanding of disease behaviour at the cellular level.
The seminar aligns with the Faculty of Science’s commitment to promoting knowledge sharing, research excellence, and multidisciplinary engagement in line with the UTM ASCEND 2030 agenda. The Popular Science Seminar Series continues to serve as an important platform for researchers and academicians to disseminate scientific findings and encourage collaborative discussions among the university community.
The Faculty of Science, UTM extends its appreciation to Dr. Mohd Ariff Admon for delivering an insightful and engaging seminar session.
