JOHOR BAHRU, 18 August 2026 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of its academic staff who have been ranked among the World’s Top 5% Scientists in the Scientific Rankings by SciRank Global 2025.
This international recognition reflects the strong research performance, scholarly contributions and growing global visibility of researchers across the Faculty of Science. A total of 12 researchers from the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematical Sciences and Biosciences were recognised in the ranking.
From the Department of Chemistry, the recognised scientists are Prof. ChM. Dr. Zaiton Abdul Majid, Prof. Dr. Madzlan Aziz, Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. See Hong Heng, Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. Lee Siew Ling, Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. Roswanira Ab. Wahab, Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. Joazaizulfazli Jamalis, and ChM. Dr. Muhammad Amirul Aizat Mohd Abdah.
The Department of Physics is represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Rashid Mohd Yusoff, while the Department of Mathematical Sciences celebrates the recognition of Prof. Dr. Sharidan bin Shafie, Prof. Dr. Zainal bin Abdul Aziz, Prof. Ts. Dr. Muhammad Hisyam Lee, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zuhaila Binti Ismail.
The Department of Biosciences also recorded an excellent achievement with Prof. Dr. Fahrul Zaman Huyop, Prof. Dr. Shafinaz Shahir, Prof. Dr. Zaharah Ibrahim, and Assoc. Prof. Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek being recognised among the world’s leading scientists.
Collectively, these achievements demonstrate the breadth and strength of scientific expertise within the Faculty of Science, encompassing chemistry, physics, mathematical sciences and biosciences. The recognition also highlights the sustained commitment of Faculty researchers to producing impactful scientific knowledge, advancing their respective disciplines and strengthening UTM’s international research presence.
The achievement is particularly significant in supporting UTM ASCEND 2030, reinforcing the University’s aspiration to enhance research excellence, global prominence and high-impact scholarly contributions. International recognition of UTM researchers contributes towards strengthening institutional reputation while creating greater opportunities for strategic research collaborations and global partnerships.
