JOHOR BAHRU, 23 June 2026 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), organised another session of its Science Seminar Series, featuring two invited speakers from the Department of Mathematics, Chandigarh University, Mohali, India.

The online seminar brought together Dr. Akanksha Singh and Dr. Shilpee Srivastava, who shared their expertise on the growing intersection between mathematics, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and optimisation.

Dr. Akanksha Singh delivered a talk entitled “Mathematics with AI: Breakthrough, Discovery, Proof, Disruption, Ethics and Opportunity.” Her presentation highlighted how artificial intelligence is reshaping mathematical research and problem-solving, particularly in supporting discovery, exploring mathematical proofs and addressing increasingly complex problems. The session also touched on important considerations related to ethics, reliability and the responsible use of AI in mathematics.

Meanwhile, Dr. Shilpee Srivastava presented “Bridging Mathematics and Machine Learning Models through Nature-Inspired Optimization.” She discussed how mathematical optimisation techniques inspired by natural processes can be applied to machine-learning models to improve computational efficiency and identify effective solutions to complex optimisation problems.

The two presentations provided participants with valuable perspectives on the important role of mathematics in supporting the advancement of artificial intelligence and machine learning. At the same time, the seminar demonstrated how emerging computational technologies are creating new opportunities for mathematical research, innovation and interdisciplinary applications.

The programme also provided a platform for academic knowledge sharing between UTM and Chandigarh University, further strengthening international academic engagement and encouraging potential collaboration in mathematics, artificial intelligence and related research areas.

Through the Science Seminar Series, the Faculty of Science continues to expose its academic community and students to emerging research areas and international expertise, supporting the Faculty’s commitment to knowledge advancement, global collaboration and research excellence in line with UTM ASCEND 2030.
