JOHOR BAHRU, 1 October 2026 – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), congratulates Prof. Dr. Nor Haniza Sarmin from the Department of Mathematical Sciences for receiving the Hadiah Sanjungan (Mathematical Innovation Category) at the Majlis Anugerah Persatuan Sains Matematik Malaysia (PERSAMA) 2026.
The recognition was awarded for her mathematical innovation entitled “T.I. Calc of the Zero Divisor Graph for the Ring Zₚᵏq.”
The innovation applies mathematical concepts related to zero-divisor graphs and ring theory to provide a systematic approach for mathematical calculation and analysis. It demonstrates how fundamental mathematical knowledge can be translated into an innovative tool that supports the exploration and understanding of complex algebraic structures.
The PERSAMA 2026 Awards Ceremony, held on 14 September 2026, recognises outstanding achievements and contributions by members of Malaysia’s mathematical sciences community.
Receiving the Hadiah Sanjungan in the Mathematical Innovation Category highlights Prof. Nor Haniza’s contribution not only to fundamental mathematical research but also to the development of research-based mathematical innovation.
The recognition further strengthens the research and innovation excellence of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, UTM, while supporting the aspirations of UTM ASCEND 2030 to advance impactful scholarship and innovation.
