JOHOR BAHRU – The Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly congratulates Dr. Mohd Rashid Admon from the Department of Mathematical Sciences on successfully securing a research grant worth RM70,000 under the Exploratory and Transformative Research Grant (GET), Phase 1, funded by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Malaysia.
The awarded research project, entitled “A Novel Artificial Intelligence Scheme Based on Artificial Neural Network for Solving Fractional Differential Equations of Monkeypox Disease,” focuses on developing an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) approach to understanding and modelling the dynamics of mpox, formerly known as monkeypox.
The research aims to integrate artificial neural networks (ANNs) with fractional differential equations to develop advanced computational methods for analysing complex disease transmission dynamics. Unlike conventional mathematical models, fractional differential equations can incorporate memory effects and historical influences, potentially providing a more comprehensive representation of biological and epidemiological processes.
A key aspect of the project involves exploring how AI-based computational techniques can improve the numerical solution of mathematical models related to infectious diseases. Artificial neural networks offer promising capabilities for approximating complex mathematical relationships and supporting the analysis of disease behaviour under different conditions.
Mpox is a viral infectious disease that has attracted international public health attention due to outbreaks across different regions. Mathematical modelling plays an important role in understanding infectious disease dynamics, evaluating potential transmission scenarios, and providing scientific insights that may support public health decision-making.
Through the integration of artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, and epidemiological modelling, the project seeks to contribute new fundamental knowledge and computational approaches for analysing infectious disease systems. The proposed methodology may also provide a foundation for future applications involving other complex biological and public health challenges.
This research highlights the growing importance of interdisciplinary scientific approaches, particularly the application of AI and mathematical sciences in addressing real-world healthcare challenges. It demonstrates how advanced computational techniques can contribute to scientific understanding beyond traditional mathematical applications.
The successful acquisition of this competitive research grant reflects Dr. Mohd Rashid’s commitment to advancing innovative mathematical research with potential applications in public health. This achievement further strengthens the Faculty of Science’s research excellence and aligns with UTM ASCEND 2030, particularly in promoting impactful scientific discoveries, artificial intelligence integration, and interdisciplinary research.
The Faculty of Science extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Mohd Rashid Admon on this achievement and wishes him continued success in advancing AI-driven mathematical modelling research that could contribute to a better understanding of infectious diseases and support future healthcare innovations.
