Johor Bahru, 25 April 2024 – The Faculty of Science (FS) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully conducted an Industrial Grants Workshop and Sharing Session as part of its Research Year 2024 initiative. Held physically at the Digital Chemistry Lab, C10, the workshop featured distinguished speakers Ir. Dr. Ab. Al-Hadi Ab. Rahman from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Ts. Dr. Azlin Abd Jamil from the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research & Innovation.

The session, attended by 19 faculty members, offered valuable insights into industrial grant opportunities and provided practical advice on how to apply successfully and collaborate with industry partners. The workshop aimed to boost submissions for industrial grants and strengthen industry-academia collaborations. The program included an opening session with guidance from Ir. Dr. Ab. Al-Hadi Ab. Rahman, followed by a sharing session on grant applications by Ts. Dr. Azlin Abd Jamil, and concluded with a hands-on workshop to improve grant proposals.

The event encouraged participants to apply for industrial grants with a target of achieving “submitted” status by the end of 2024 and helped faculty members build stronger ties with industry for future research collaborations. The workshop was a key component of FS Research Year 2024, designed to enhance the research and funding capabilities of UTM’s academic staff. Recommendations for future sessions included scheduling them outside lecture hours and encouraging participants to bring draft proposals for review.
