Johor Bahru, 30 April 2024 – The Faculty of Science (FS) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully organized a full-day Publication Workshop as part of its Research Year 2024 initiative. Held at Dewan Al-Dinawari, T02, the workshop focused on enhancing research publication practices and ethical manuscript preparation. Led by Associate Professor Dr. Nor Azimah Mohd Zain and supported by experienced facilitators, the event provided valuable guidance on the publication process, ethical use of tools like ChatGPT, and tips for addressing reviewer feedback.
A key highlight of the workshop was the forum titled “ChatGPT: Friend or Foe?,” featuring notable speakers Ts. Dr. NajI Arafat Mahat and Prof. Dr. Hesham Ali Metwally Ali El-Enshasy from the Institute of Bioproduct Development. The forum explored the pros and cons of using AI tools like ChatGPT in academic writing and research, sparking deep reflection among participants.
The program also featured insightful talks on manuscript design for quality publications and strategies for increasing acceptance rates. Participants were encouraged to reflect on their research challenges, plan ethical research and publication strategies, and prepare manuscripts for submission to journals.
The workshop resulted in heightened awareness of ethical AI usage, increased motivation to meet 2024 manuscript submission goals, and practical strategies for overcoming publication hurdles. Future recommendations included inviting external experts and extending the workshop to two days for more comprehensive discussions.
