Johor Bahru, May 2024 – The Faculty of Science at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully held an International Grants Workshop and Sharing Session on May 14, 2024, as part of its annual FS Research Year initiative. The workshop, conducted at UTM HELIxS C17, aimed to equip UTM researchers with the skills needed to apply for international grants, fostering global research collaborations.

Led by ChM. Dr. Muhammad Amirul Aizat Mohd Abdah, the event attracted 13 participants, including 12 lecturers and one postgraduate student. The participants gained valuable insights into securing international research funding through presentations by experts. Ts. ChM. Dr. Mohamad Shazwan Shah Jamil provided guidance on the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) UK International Grant, Dr. Juan Matmin discussed the Nippon Sheet Glass Research Grant, and Dr. Nur Izzati Mohd Noh presented on the ASEAN-India Collaborative R&D Scheme.

The workshop offered several benefits, including enhanced proposal writing skills, opportunities for international collaboration, and practical guidance on grant applications. Participants received hands-on experience, preparing and discussing their own grant submissions with the help of experienced facilitators.

For the Faculty of Science at UTM, this program plays a critical role in strengthening research output, broadening funding sources, and encouraging innovation. By improving grant application capabilities, the faculty is better positioned to secure international research collaborations, enhancing its profile in the global academic community. The success of the workshop demonstrates UTM’s ongoing commitment to advancing research capabilities and fostering global academic partnerships.
