Johor Bahru, September 5, 2024 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully wrapped up the Faculty of Science (FS) Research Year 2024 with a grand closing ceremony held at the Al-Razi Auditorium, T02. The event marked the culmination of a fruitful year of research activities that spanned from April 2024, with a total of 18 programs aimed at boosting the quality and quantity of research outputs across the faculty.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Prof. Dr. Rosli Md Ilias, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) of UTM, and was attended by key members of the FS management, academic staff, and industry partners. One of the highlights of the event was the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between STMicroelectronics Sdn Bhd and the Faculty of Science, symbolizing future collaborations in research and innovation. Representing STMicroelectronics was Ms. Theck Ling Gan, Director of the Manufacturing Data Science Department, while UTM was represented by Prof. Dr. Rosli Md Ilias.
For the first time, the ceremony introduced the Excellence in Young Researcher Award 2024 and Research Engagement Awards for Research Month FS 2023 to recognize outstanding contributions by the faculty’s researchers.
The winners of the Excellence in Young Researcher Award 2024 were:
- Biosciences: Dr. Abdul Fatah Bin A. Samad
- Physics: Dr. Mohamad Syazwan Bin Mohd Sanusi
- Chemistry: Dr. Faizuan Bin Abdullah
- Mathematics: Dr. Ahmad Qushairi Bin Mohamad
The event also honored numerous other researchers for their significant contributions in various categories, including publication, edited books, intellectual property, and industry and international grants.
The FS Research Year 2024 closing ceremony concluded with a montage presentation, followed by the award presentation and a group photo session. Participants were then treated to a luncheon to celebrate the achievements of the faculty and its researchers over the past year.
